Clare Main Street is a unique and valuable resource to this community and State. It has a special character that is obvious to the most casual observer. The uniqueness of our downtown requires careful attention in order to be maintained for many years to come.
The Design Standards have been established and enacted to articulate what design objectives are expected as new development and redevelopment occurs in Downtown Clare.
It is intended that this brochure will provide guidance to both designers and property/business owners in the preparation, review, and approval of plans.
Design Standards Review Application
The four primary goals of the Design Standards are:
1. Improve appearance. The goal is to encourage commercial property owners to improve the exterior appearance of their properties in a cost effective, affordable manner.
2. Encourage development. The goal is to encourage development and renovation within downtown Clare.
3. Preserve history. The goal is to preserve historical structures and streetscape in the downtown development district.
4. Promote civic pride. The goal is to promote civic pride in the beauty of the city.
